Problem importing .fit files from Garmin Fenix 3

Fri 26. Aug 2016, 21:20

All of sudden I cannot import original .fit files from Garmin Fenix 3 - get "There was a problem while importing the file. (FIT file is not specified as activity.)". All 3 new runs are rejected with same error.
Is this known issue?
Any idea for workaround :(

We need the files to check them. Can you attach them (or send them to support@runalyze.com)? I have no problems with current files of my fenix 3.

To you have any special sensors connected to your fenix? Or do you use any special 'app' to track your activities?

Files sent via email.
Nothing new with runs - same equipment as previously (Garmin Fenix 3 with HRM-RUN chest belt).
Last run was on Wednesday and was ok - current runs are also displayed without problems on Garmin Connect.
But if I remember right then on Wednesday new firmware was pushed to the watch from Garmin.
Also new Moxy data fields were added, but this run was without Moxy sensor.

Latest production version of Golden Cheetah also has problems with those new files, but its fixed in their development build.
It seems its related to FIT 2.0 support, but I'm not sure.

FIT 2.0 alone is no problem, but using third party data fields like the Moxy one ruin the fit file. Even if the sensor is not connected, the data field will write developer fields to the FIT file.

Sadly, our current FIT parser is not able to decode these developer fields, as the original author as well as another author that created a github repository for the reader have not fixed the parser so far. Our knowledge of Perl and the binary structure of FIT files is very limited, so I don't know how long it will take to fix the parser.

Sad :(

It basically means that anyone with Garmin and Moxy/BSX/Stryd/etc devices would not be able to use your site anymore.

I would check if its possible to strip those dev fields from file using 3rd party tools.

We contacted the programmer of the third-party parser and he sent us a new version.
I think we will deploy it tomorrow to runalyze.com - we still have to do some tests

Everything should be fine now. Files can be read and processed again - Developer fields from third-party vendor will be supported soon in one of our next releases

Thank you for quick support!

I could confirm that new .fit files could be imported now.
