Elevation Issues in imported runs.

Thu 20. Sep 2018, 12:55

Hi; I'm trying a new workflow for where I record/upload my runs. It's a bit long winded, but it involves exporting from Polar Flow https://flow.polar.com/training/analysis/2835828204 then importing to Stryd Powercenter to merge in the extra running dynamics metrics that aren't recorded natively on my V800, that gives me this results https://www.stryd.com/powercenter/run/4836055190863872 and then uploading the fit file from Powercenter to SportTracks.mobi (which I've been using as my main analysis site for a while), which gives me this run https://sporttracks.mobi/activity/18815105 and then finally sending to Runalyze via Fitnesssyncer, which gives me this run https://runalyze.com/shared/2tdg9
The problem is that elevation is messed up when it comes into runalyze. You can see that the elevation plot in runalyze doesn't match up with that seen anywhere else. It makes a little more sense when you look at the climb score view, as it seems like the activity is only showing an elevation when there's been a change in elevation. If there's no change, it appears to be shown as 0. I haven't seen this behaviour on any other site.
I'm not even sure if it's a problem with how runalyze is parsing the elevation, or how fitnesssyncer is sending it. Is it possible to get the behaviour changed though so that elevation remains at the previous level unless there's new information?
I'm happy to supply any files from the steps along the way of the import process if that'll help debug things.

The SportTracks Mobi Export seeems to be empty.
All we can say: This is the elevation data we got in the end

(between every | is a datapoint. As you see there are many empty ones)
So we can't do anything here. Maybe you should use the elevation correction in that case (which would not solve your core problem)

Just as a side note: When importing Stryd's fit file, everything looks fine.

Thank you for investigating. I'll change my workflow, maybe try syncing from somewhere else, or upload the Stryd output files directly/manually. I noticed the SportTracks file was much smaller, I wonder if they've deliberately chosen to only record a value when it changes to save on file size. (I'm just guessing, I'm not sure if such a strategy would be a valid part of the fit file format either.)

Re: Elevation Issues in imported runs.

So, I've recently started playing around with logging my runs on an apple watch, with iSmoothRun. I'm again having elevation issues showing up on runalyze that I'm not seeing on other websites (or in the iSmoothRun app itself.)
I can see in the exported data (attached) that there are points where the elevation drops to 0, so I don't want to say it's totally a runalyze issue - it's just that every other site I use seems to do a better job of sanity checking and/or filtering those duff data points.
On a run today when most sites say that at most I've gained/lost <10m, runalyze is saying over 100.
Picture shows the "raw" data display from within iSmoothRun (which totally glosses over the height difference actually, makes me wonder if there's an export bug on their side?). TCX and CSV files are from the run, exported from iSmoothRun.
